About The Artist.
Born in Brazil to a French and Peruvian family, Elsa grew up in the United States and is now based in Birmingham, England. After attending a fine arts high school, she went on to study forensic psychology and work within the criminal justice system before returning to her artistic practice.
Working across painting, digital art, and printmaking, Elsa's work explores portraiture alongside recurring natural forms, particularly fish, insects, and plants. Figures often meet the viewer with a quiet, unwavering gaze, creating a subtle tension between observing and being observed.
Characterised by saturated colour, graphic composition, and the visual language of printmaking, the work draws on bold silhouettes, flattened forms, and negative space. While vibrant in palette, it often carries an underlying sense of stillness and melancholy.
Influenced by an enduring interest in the natural world and human experience, Elsa's work explores how beauty and unease can coexist within the same space.
